The Apartheid Free Zone (AFZ) initiative is part of the wider Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, a Palestinian-led movement for freedom, justice and equality.
A business or organisation that wants to be an Apartheid Free Zone commits to supporting the principles of the BDS movement, and to publicly declaring that it is an Apartheid Free Zone.
The AFZ initiative seeks to build up a network of spaces across the world that are actively opposed to Israel’s apartheid regime and its genocide of the Palestinian people. It encourages all organisations to support the Palestinian people by pledging not to source goods or services from apartheid Israel.
The Israeli economy significantly depends on international trade and investment, making it especially susceptible to international economic boycotts and, as such, the expansion of AFZs can make a real difference. As well as impacting the Israeli economy, the increased visibility of the AFZ movement will testify to our growing social and personal commitment as citizens not to remain silent.
Effective, organised and community-based support is more urgent than ever in the face of Israel’s genocidal campaign against the 2.3 million Palestinians in the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip. Only through our active opposition to apartheid and oppression, can we end apartheid and oppression.
